The unaired pilot is the aforementioned pilot episode of Coconut Fred's Fruit Salad Island!. It is a low-quality, test version of the show with a similar premise to that of the first episode's second segment, "Master of Disaster".
This pilot was never aired on television, but was instead shown off on the 2005 Kids WB "Crash the Backlot" Tour as one of the many episodes you could re-record with your own voice.[1]
In September 2022, some snippets and dialogue from the pilot were rediscovered[2] from the show's upfront promo.
On April 16th 2025, a promo cutdown was found that contains even more snippets and dialogue of the pilot, sourced from a Warner Bros. screener site that had it available as a trailer; excluding some scenes from the upfront promo, but including new ones as well. This promo is notably also in HD quality. The full pitch pilot of Coconut Fred's Fruit Salad Island! has yet to resurface.

Trivia
General
- This episode is currently considered as partially lost media, as the full pilot cannot be viewed anywhere.
- Prior to the upfront promo resurfacing, there were distorted clips of it scattered around YTP's by YouTube user 1downpoison, those being "Grounder lost his pen*s" and "Butchy is Sexually Frustrated".
- The existence of the pilot went under people's radars until a user discovered it in said YTPs during late 2020.
- Judging from a copyright record found about the show, the pilot might've been produced in November 12th 2002[4].
- There is an article about the pitch pilot in the Lost Media Archive Wiki which can be found here.
- Both promos containing clips of the pilot use copyrighted songs played as background music.
- The Upfront Promo uses snippets of Kingston Karnival by Joseph Charles and Stephen McIntosh and the instrumental to Hot in Herre by Nelly.
- The Pitch Promo Cutdown contains snippets of Noki Bay from Super Mario Sunshine, an unidentified song, I Got You (I Feel Good) by James Brown, Hip Hop Hooray by Naughty by Nature, and Super Rad! by The Aquabats.
Differences
- The episode features a more simplified design for the show, as this was before Character Designers Chris Battle and Miss Mindy Allen were brought to work on the show.[5]
- Fred, Slip, and Slide are the only characters with pants/shorts, everyone else wears no clothing aside from hat accessories.
- Slip and Slide are the only characters to wear shoes.
- Mr. Greenrind is shorter, but is still taller than Fred.
- Wedgie's feet have a set of bumps simulating a lemon's bump.
- Bingo has a tooth gap.
- The episode contains multiple scenes which are absent in it's reworked version.
- According to a Q&A with director Matt Danner, Mr. Greenrind, Slip D'Peel, and Slide D'Peel had different voice actors in the pilot, those being Charlie Adler and Harland Williams respectively.[6]
- This most likely means that the pilot had an all American voice cast, opposed to the Canadian voice cast in the full show.
- Instead of using backgrounds meant to emulate photocards like in the full series, the pilot opts for using real life photographs and overlaying drawings on it.
- Bunga Berry is absent in the pilot, despite being a main character in the series. This might've been due to him not being ready to be in the pilot yet or he wasn't conceptualized yet.
- Betty and Wedgie's Houseboat are also absent in the pilot, which could mean the shipwreck never happened, and Wedgie could've had a different backstory.
- Fred does not jump out of his bed into outer space when waking up.
- Fred does not make undertards out of Slip and Slide's underwear therefore causing the paparazzi not to appear.
- Instead of dancing in the ritual to appease Melvin, Fred makes the gang smile.
- In the scene where Fred gets lava on his head, the line "FRED!" is said by everyone, and "There's hot lava on your head!" was said by either Slip or Slide D'Peel instead of Bingo Cherry.
